Article from L’Antenne

The Sablons lock accident on February 17 2020, followed by the consequences of Covid-19, had a netagive effect on container traffic in the Rhône-Saône basin. In May 2020, if container traffic fell by 42%, but this was offset by agricultural traffic which increased by 15.7%.

In the Saône sector, the timber industry has also helped the port of Villefranche-sur-Saône. Rather dynamic, this port has also benefited from its position focused on cereals and fertilizers, like its neighbors, to the north of the tributary (Macon, Chalon-sur-Saône and Pagny-le-Château). The port of Villefranche notably has silos that can accommodate several tens of thousands of tonnes of grain.
