In the first quarter of 2020, over 5.9 million passengers passed through the five main Irish airports, a decrease of 20.4% over the same period in 2019. Ireland’s main airports handled a total of 37,135 tonnes of freight in the first quarter of 2020, the vast majority (95.3%) of which was international freight.

Six of the seven main Irish ports (excluding Rosslare) handled 12.1 million tonnes of goods in Q1 2020. This is a decrease of 5.2% compared with Q1 2019. Goods forwarded from these ports amounted to 4.0 million tonnes in Q1 2020, while a total of 8.1 million tonnes of goods were received. The tonnage of goods handled decreased in four of the five traffic categories in Q1 2020, with the only quarterly percentage increase in liquid bulk (4.6%).
