Brussels port traffic in the first half of 2020 affected by the health crisis

Waterway traffic at the Port of Brussels for the first half of 2020 was, as expected, affected by the global health crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Traffic (own traffic) thus fell by 13% for the first six months of 2020 (2019 was however a record year for Brussels port activity), showing a loss of 351,000 tonnes, to reach 2.4 million tonnes. Overall traffic saw a smaller drop (-4%) thanks to the good performance of transit traffic (+ 31%). Transit traffic however should be put into perspective because of the poor results of 2019, which was particularly marked by low water on certain European waterways.
