Financing Transport Infrastructure from EU Defence Budget

Euractiv published a special report entitiled “Europe’s military mobility, a game-changer for regional infrastructure projects?”. The article mentions the Rail Baltica project and howe the route is expected to receive an important contribution for “military mobility” for the rapid transfer of troops and material to the Russian border in case of crisis. It goes on to explain that in 2018, Catherine Trautmann, the European Coordinator for the NSB corridor stated that Rail Baltica could also be financed through the EU’s defence budget.

The article refers to a study: Joint Report to the European Parliament and the Council on the implementation of the Action Plan on Military Mobility which carried out a gap analysis comparing civil and military infrstructure needs.
