UK-EU Shift from accompanied to unaccompanied RORO

Lloyds list reports that because of the combined effects of Brexit and Covid-19, there will be a shift from accompanied RORO freight traffic on the short straits (Dover-Calais) to unaccompanied traffic on the longer routes (e.g. via Humber).

See article.

Due to uncertainty, and the likelihood of driver-accompanied freight being delayed at ports, companies are looking for alternatives using unaccompanied transport. This offers the prospect that the long term trend towards the use of the short straits could start to be reversed. Potential changes to the rules on cabotage in the UK may also influence the outcome.
