Results of TEN-T Evaluation

The EC has released the Staff Working Document summarising the results of its evaluation of the TEN-T Regulation (1315/2013). The document finds that the policy (and approach) has been successful in supporting the development of the infrastructure needed for the EU to meet its wider transport policy objectives. However, aspects such as reaching climate change objectives and accelerating the deployment of smart technologies for transport require further work.

“Focusing only on a recalibration of certain standards or requirements would not be sufficient to meet the overall objectives of greening, digitalisation and modal shift; instead, an integrated network approach centred on interoperability and increased efficiency while addressing all shortcomings is needed. This will help us meet the objectives and milestones set out in the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.”

Greater efforts are also needed to make sure that key projects are completed by 2030.

Annex 7 of the report See pdf version p150 contains details of the traffic scenarios used in the evaluation, and forecats up to 2050 showing projected modal shift and CO2 emissions by traffic category.
